Kylie Jones, Beatrice Ruble are top returners with 36 and 25 points, respectively

Jefferson girls’ lacrosse is back with coach Kayla Mattern for a second season after not only going 10-5 overall but reaching the Section 6 semifinal before losing to perennial powerhouse Prior Lake 16-9. The Lakers went on to lose to Edina 10-9 in overtime for the section title.

The Jaguars were one of three Metro West Conference teams to go 6-1 joining eventual state champion Benilde-St. Margaret’s and Chanhassen as the programs combined to win 40 matches.

Jefferson junior middie Kylie Jones is back after controlling 52 draws along with classmate Beatrice Ruble who not only was a consistent face-off winner (41) but also scored 25 goals.

Jones is the top returning scorer finishing with 36 points on 24 goals after the top three scorers graduated last season Emelia Lowe, Allison Wolfe and Hope Johnson who combined for 145 points (105 goals and 40 assists). Jones led the team with 70 ground balls while Ruble had 45 ground balls.

Sophomore defender Talia Hammond is back after causing 11 turnovers. The unit limited just over 10 shots on goal per game while the offense nearly doubled that mark, averaging 19.6 shots on goal. The Jaguars went 167-139 in draw controls.

Senior goaltender Marlee Hanson made 85 saves and will be a captain this spring alongside senior defender Shawna Krakow and senior attacker Amani Henry.

Jefferson hosts Youth Lacrosse Day against Rosemount with a 1:30 p.m. start Saturday on the turf fields. The Jaguars host Chaska 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, for Megan’s Message Night.

Senior Night will be 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23, as the Jaguars host Waconia in the Metro West Conference and regular-season finale.
