Lake fastpitch softball teams enjoy success

    2024-04-16

Several Lake Conference girls fastpitch softball teams appear much improved this season, based on early results.

Minnetonka got off to a great start last week with a pair of decisive victories. In a conference game, the Skippers blanked Eden Prairie 6-0 with Emily Campion pitching a three-hitter and Kyli Kullberg hitting a home run.

The Skippers’ second game of the season was a slugfest as they poured it on Minneapolis Southwest 24-7 in a game at Pershing Park in Minneapolis. Minnetonka had 18 hits, including four by Kullberg. Ava Klick had four RBIs.

Eden Prairie rebounded from its loss to Minnetonka in a non-conference game April 12. Third baseman Rose Neuman had a huge day for the Eagles with a pair of home runs.

Wayzata upended Tartan 17-13 April 12 with Lexi Drasher supplying a lot of the offensive punch via four hits. In its conference opener, Wayzata lost to St. Michael-Albertville 10-0 on April 11. The Trojans were limited to three hits.

In a game played April 11, the Hopkins girls softball team took a 6-0 lead and held on to beat Buffalo 8-7. Abi Carter and Rosa Greenwood each had two hits for Hopkins. Mackenzie Dinwiddie hit a key double. The Royals couldn’t sustain their momentum and lost to Chaska 14-1 in a non-conference game April 12.

Ella Meyer, a returning All-Lake player, pitched a complete game as the Edina Hornets opened the season with an 8-0 victory over St. Anthony. Meyer was also the star on offense with three hits. Shortstop Mia Kapoor added two hits for the Hornets.

A round of Lake Conference fastpitch games is set for 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, with Minnetonka against Edina at Edina’s Pamela Park, Wayzata against Eden Prairie at EP’s Miller Park and Hopkins against St. Michael-Albertville at STMA’s varsity high school field.
