The Edina High girls soccer team split on opening week of the 2024 season with a 4-2 loss to Rosemount and a 4-0 victory over Prior Lake.

New head coach Taylor Greathouse was happy to get her first victory as the Hornets’ head coach in a Saturday matinee at Prior Lake. It was a solid victory with everyone getting playing time in a dominant win.

“The overall intensity and effort were good,” coach Greathouse said. “We were consistent and had multiple players on the scoreboard.”

The loss to Rosemount was a typical season-opening game with both teams trying to figure out what will work best this season.

“Rosemount is a physical team that was able to finish opportunities,” Greathouse observed. “They earned the win.”

Lou Ruffien scored for Edina on a free kick. She is the top returning scorer from last year’s squad.

There are 21 players on the Hornets varsity roster: Ruffien, Alejandra Adair, Lucia Begg, Mikaela Caverly, Anna Conner, Elizabeth Conner, Avery Cooper, Ellie Doscotch, Emerson Fritz, Ainsley Graves, Stella Hankinson, Kate Hu, Kaylee Idrogo-Lam, Evie Kachmarzinski, Eleni McGuire, Madelyn McWain, Eloise Molepski, Brenna Prellwitz, Lillian Sexton, Lily Smoley and Kelly Sprague.
