    Olson nets 40 in win

    Defending state Class AAA girls basketball champion Benilde-St. Margaret’s earned a return trip to state by defeating Delano 83-64 in the Section 3AAA finals March 7.

    McDonald’s All-American Olivia Olson paced the Red Knights with 40 points.

    Most of BSM’s victory margin was built in the first half as the Knights led 42-29 at the break.

    Two other scorers made double figures for BSM - Sydney Friedly with 14 points and Zahara Bishop with 10. Pressley Watkins added eight points and Kate Kapsner and Josephine Nnaji put in five points each.

    Benilde-St. Margaret’s advanced to the section finals by beating Holy Angels 67-25 March 2. Olson was the dominant scorer, almost matching Holy Angels’ team scoring total, with her 24. Friedly pumped in 19 points as BSM’s second leading scorer. Nnaji was next with eight points and Kapsner contributed seven.

    Land leads HFC

    Jocelyn Land of Holy Family Catholic High’s girls basketball team scored 32 points in the Fire’s 84-62 win over Minneapolis North in the Section 5AA Tournament.

    Kallin McColm supported Land with 22 points. Grace Anseth also reached double figures with 10 points and Elin Miller added nine.

    West Lutheran falls

    A good season fro the West Lutheran High girls basketball team ended with a 76-62 loss to New Life Academy in the Section 4A Tournament.

    Marisa Tusler helped West Lutheran stay close with 20 points and teammate Ella Schmidt followed with 14 points. Natalie Menges chipped in with nine points and Lily Thompson-Quartey finished with eight points.

    Heritage boys win

    Heritage Christian Academy’s boys basketball team defeated Mounds Park Academy 72-59 in the last game of the regular season. Joshua Sokeye led the winners with 29 points while making 11 of 22 shots from the field. Abu Tarawallie helped Heritage Christian with 15 points.
