2024 boys lacrosse preview: Players to watch this season
Tyler Abell, Mt. Blue, junior, attack: Abell scored 27 goals last season. He generates scoring opportunities for himself, which he often capitalizes on, and his teammates. Cody Dionne, Lewiston, senior, midfield: Dionne has been a force for the Blue Devils since his freshman year as an old-school two-way midfielder. His ability to play on both sides of the field helped last season against opponents like Edward Little, when he fired off several quick goals in the first five minutes of the game.
2024 girls lacrosse preview: Players to watch this season
Caroline Corgan, Winthrop, junior, midfield/defense: Corgan is expected to be a key player on both sides of the restraining line for the Maranacook/Winthrop co-op this season. She is a hard-working, instinctive player with a knack for scooping up ground balls. She was named to the 2023 Sun Journal All-Region Second Team last spring.

PORTLAND — An Auburn man was convicted in federal court earlier this week — for a third time — for having a gun while prohibited. Willie R. Minor, 63, was convicted Tuesday by a jury in U.S. District Court on a charge of possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
Lewiston woman in critical condition two days after pedestrian accident
LEWISTON — A woman struck by a car on Sabattus Street on Wednesday night was in critical condition Friday in a Portland hospital. Margaret “Peggy” Pooler was on full life support and dialysis at Maine Medical Center on Friday afternoon. A family friend said Pooler had developed a brain bleed and that her kidneys had shut down as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Buckfield stabbing victim and suspect knew each other from prison, police say
PARIS — A Waterville man and his alleged stabbing victim from Buckfield knew each other from prison, authorities said. Abdul-Rashid Bilal, 27, and Michael Darnell Johnson-Wynter, 37, had met at Maine State Prison in Warren where “they both did several years for crimes,” Oxford County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Timothy E. Ontengco wrote in an affidavit.

Police investigate apparent murder-suicide at Minot home
MINOT — State police were investigating a pair of deaths at a Millett Road home Thursday afternoon in what appeared to be a murder-suicide. Police said 19-year-old Emali Sallee of Lewiston was found dead in the home at 425 Millett Road on Thursday morning. Her death was declared the result of a homicide after an autopsy, police said.
