    Waconia battles conference opponents

    The Waconia softball team lost a close one against Bloomington Jefferson on the first day of May, with the Jaguars earning a 5-4 walk-off win.

    The Wildcats got their offense going early with two runs in the top of the first inning. Ellana Keaveny got on base, then stole second, with Nicole Weinberger joining her on base via a single. Madelyn Grover and Mckenna Varner then drove in one run each to put the Wildcats up 2-0.

    The ‘Cats added two more runs to their lead in the top of the fourth inning. Reagan Mieras doubled to get things started, then scored when Lydia Plagge put the ball in play. Keaveny would later put the ball in play, leading to a fourth run crossing the plate for Waconia.

    Unfortunately for the ‘Cats, Jefferson would find their offense late, scoring two runs in the fifth and then three more in the seventh to earn the 5-4 win.

    Weinberger had three hits to lead Waconia, Grover had two hits and an RBI, Varner had one hit and an RBI. Plagge had an RBI, Mieras had one hit and Ada Harmon had a hit.

    Ella Stejskal was in the circle for Waconia, allowing just one earned run in six innings.

    In a 13-2 loss to New Prague, Grover had three hits and two RBI’s to lead the Wildcats, while Weinberger had one hit and an RBI. Keaveny, Mieras and Plagge each had one hit.
