    Wildcats defeat Spartans

    After a strong start to the 2024 season, the Waconia baseball team had a tough week last week, winning one out of four games.

    The Wildcats lost 11-6 to Benilde-St. Margaret’s, 8-2 against New Prague and 10-4 against Prior Lake. Their lone win was a 9-4 victory over Orono.

    The Wildcats outhit the Red Knights 10-9, but still fell in the 11-6 game. Culley Ohm and Soren Marker led Waconia with two hits each, while Ohm, Matthew Mieras and Adam Rice had one RBI each, and Reed Klatt had two.

    Waconia got off to a strong start in their Friday win over Orono, scoring in each of the first five innings to jump ahead 9-3. Waconia outhit the Spartans 11-7 in the 9-4 win. Mieras, Rice and Trey Wickstrom each had multi-hit days for Waconia, while Klatt had two RBIs to lead the ‘Cats. Ohm, Mieras, Rice, Lucas Langin and Wickstrom each had one RBI in the win. Langin earned the win on the mound in five innings of work, while Jacob Weir and Maddux Schrupp both pitched in relief.

    Waconia had nine hits when taking on the Lakers, but fell 10-4. Klatt had three hits to lead the Wildcats, while Austin Randall and Mieras both had two. Randall, Mieras and Guy Ladwig each had one RBI in the loss.
