    Royals sweep Annandale in baseball and softball

    The Watertown-Mayer baseball team bounced back from 2-0 loss to Rockford with three wins, sweeping Glencoe Silver Lake 6-5 and 14-8 before a 6-1 win over Annandale.

    Noah Weinzierl and Jaren Vogt both had two hits in the loss to Rockford, while Gannon Lee had one. Michael Foley struck out seven in five innings, allowing just one earned run. Landon Meyer pitched two innings in relief with no hits or earned runs.

    The Royals and the Panthers went 11 innings in game one of the doubleheader. With the game knotted at 2-2 in the 10th inning, Glencoe Silver Lake scored three runs before the Royals responded with three runs of their own, sending it to the 11th inning. Trailing 5-2 in the 10th, Vogt and Foley hit back-to-back doubles to score one run, then Noah Leuthner singled to score another. An error by the Panthers led to the tying run, sending the game into the 11th inning.

    Isaiah Mead doubled to get things going in the 11th, then Vogt hit a walk off double to give the Royals the win. Watertown-Mayer had 17 hits in the win, led by Vogt’s four, and three from Foley and Leuthner. Weinzierl went seven innings with one earned run, while Mead and Luethner both pitched in relief, allowing no earned runs.

    The Royals scored 14 runs on 16 hits in game two, with Nick Webster dealing the most damage, tallying three hits and six RBIs with a home run. Weinzierl and Luethner both had two hits and two RBIs in the win.

    The Royals then defeated Annandale 6-1 with Weinzierl pitching six innings with no earned runs. Foley and Luethner led the Royals with two hits each, while Connor Tax had two RBIs. Weinzierl, Mead and Foley each had one RBI.

    Softball

    The Watertown-Mayer softball team swept a double header with Annandale, winning 12-11 and 7-3 before losing both games of a double header against Glencoe Silver Lake 2-0 and 5-2.

    The Royals went back and forth with the Cardinals on Wednesday before the Royals earned a walk off win after trailing 11-10 in the 7th inning. Payton Hecksel, Paige Kosmatka and Ella Guetzkow loaded the bases before Eleanor Rundell and Darby Lee batted in the two runs to earn the win for the Royals. Hecksel, Kosmatka and Grace Bullock each had three hits in the win, while Guetzkow had two hits and four RBIs.

    In game two, the Royals outhit the Cardinals 11-6, leading 7-1 midway through the game. Guetzkow homered and had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Royals, while Kosmatka and Lee both had two hits. Kosmatka, Bullock, Natalie Boersma and Kallie Jackson each had one RBI in the win. Guetzkow earned a complete game win with 12 strikeouts, allowing just two earned runs.

    Hecksel, Kosmatka, Bullock and Mackenna Bisek each had a hit in the 6- loss to the Panthers, while Boersma and Bisek had the lone RBIs. The Royals outhit the Panthers 8-7 in game two, but lost 5-2. Bisek and Boersma each had two hits to lead the Royals, while Hecksel and Kosmatka had the RBIs.
