Mayer Lutheran cross country season preview

Head coach: Parker Esterberg

New team: “We have some really excited runners ready to learn the sport and improve their running,” said Esterberg. “As it is a new team, our runners will be getting used to the distance, process, and strategy of cross country. They are excited to learn.”

Team goals: “As a team, our goals are to work on the fundamentals of running and have a fun season,” said Esterberg.

Strengths/areas to work on. “As this is a new program starting with runners who have not participated in cross country before,” said Esterberg. “As we start the season, we have strength in the willingness to learn and excitement to improve. We will also focus on working on the fundamentals of running and strategizing the race.”

Events that stick out: “We are gearing up for Mayer Lutheran’s first cross country meet on August 24,” Esterberg said of the 10 a.m. meet at Baylor Park in NYA.

Conference outlook: “We are joining an athletic conference with a lot of schools we don’t know a lot about this season, so we are excited to see how we stack up,” said Esterberg.

Section outlook: “One of our runners will be looking to make a splash in the section, looking to place in good standing,” said Esterberg.
