Carver County accepting applications for opioid settlement funds

Carver County announced the opening of the Opioid Settlement Funding Application process earlier this month, encouraging community organizations to apply for funding to support projects addressing the opioid crisis. Applications opened Sept. 4 with a submission deadline of Sept. 18, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.

Carver County, alongside the State of Minnesota and numerous other counties and cities, has been engaged in nationwide court case against prescription opioid manufacturers and distributors due to the ongoing opioid crisis. In 2021, Carver County agreed to enter into settlement agreements with several pharmaceutical distributors and drug manufacturers, with additional settlement efforts still being discussed. Public health agencies have been appointed as the chief strategist for these initiatives, focusing on local efforts, fostering community involvement, and utilizing collaborative, evidence-based approaches to prevent opioid use and address addiction.

Carver County aims to engage with local community organizations by providing funding from the opioid settlement to support projects tackling the opioid crisis. Community organizations are encouraged to submit a funding application for projects that align with one or more of the guiding principles outlined in the settlement. Visit the county’s website for more information and to submit an application: carvercountymn.gov/OpioidPreventionFunding.

For any questions regarding the application process, contact Samantha Downs at the County’s Health & Human Services — Public Health Department by phone: 952-378-0965.
