    Watertown-Mayer sports update

    Volleyball

    The Watertown-Mayer volleyball team lost a close battle with Legacy Christian Academy Sept. 3, falling 3-2 in a match that featured an exciting tiebreaking set that went to 21 points (16-25, 25-23, 25-15, 18-25, 19-21).

    Alaina Burns had 35 kills and Anna Fiscus tallied 15. Addie Leuthner had five and Grace Trucke tallied four, while Claire Vanderlinde, Emily Peterson and Hailey Rasmussen each had one

    Leuthner had 49 assists. Burns had three, while Peterson, Kallie Jackson and Malori Derner each had one.

    The Royals tallied 12 service aces: Burns (4), Jackson (4), Leuthner (2), Jackson (1), Derner (1).

    Peterson had 31 digs and was followed by Burns (15), Elyse Tschudi (15), Jackson (15), Leuthner (12), Rasmussen (4), Derner (4) and Trucke (1).

    Vanderlinde had two blocks and two block assists, Trucke had four block assists, Fiscus had two block assists and Burns had one block assist.

    Girls soccer

    The Watertown-Mayer girls soccer team moved up to the No. 3 ranking in Class A thanks to their 5-0-1 start. Last week, the Royals defeated Mound Westonka 5-0 before a 1-1 tie against AAA Waconia.

    Ainsley Blair had a pair of goals against Mound Westonka, while Ellie Lommel, Eleanor Rundell and Alice Gersema also scored. Julia Salzsiedler had an assist and Lauren Grimm had four saves in the shutout win.

    Blair had the lone goal in the tie against Waconia, while Grimm had four saves.

    Boys soccer

    The Watertown-Mayer boys soccer team defeated Heritage Christian 3-1 before a 3-1 loss to Delano last week.

    Lonne Gilbert, Roland Platzer and Payton Stanley each scored a goal when taking on Heritage Christian, with Stanley and Micah Schmidt each recording an assist. Luke Jewison made four saves in the win.

    Schmidt scored off an assist from Stanley against Delano, while Jewison had seven saves.

    Cross country

    The Watertown-Mayer cross country team competed in the Rocket Run this past week.

    Tyler Stutsman led the boys with a time of 18 minutes, 59.8 seconds and was followed by Andrew Maus (23:41.1), Paul Leuthner (23:41.7), Prescott Jones (24:16.9).

    Madeline Bean represented the girls with a 27:20.7.

    Football

    The Watertown-Mayer football team dropped to 1-1 with a 32-0 loss at Holy Family Catholic Friday night.
