    Wildcats off to 2-0 start

    The Waconia football team moved to 2-0 on the season with another dominant win, defeating St. Thomas Academy 35-7 Sept. 6. Through two games, Waconia has averaged 34.5 points per game and allowed just seven points total.

    Kaden Herman connected with Owen Hiltner for two first quarter touchdowns, scoring from 7 and 12 yards out. Wil Goldschmidt scored on a 35 yard run before Nick Theis scored 14 and 3 yard touchdowns.

    The Wildcats utilized a balanced effort to total almost 400 yards of offense. Waconia passed for 193 yards and ran for 192. Waconia was also good at converting on third and fourth down, going 8/16 and 5/7 respectively. The defense was lights out on crucial downs, holding the opposition to 1/8 on third and 1/3 on fourth. Waconia committed no turnovers while forcing three, as Aaron Golka intercepted two passes and Will Kirsch picked off one.

    Herman completed 14 passes for 193 yards and two scores. Ryan Lange caught 2 for 72, Hiltner caught 5 for 67, Mason Speers caught 2 for 26, Golka caught 2 for 16 and Will Olson caught 2 for 15.

    Goldschmidt ran for 130 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries and Theis ran for 50 yards and two scores on 18 carries.

    Cooper Jahnke had 10 tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss, while Nehemiah Ombati and Jack Jacobs both had a sack.
