    Chaska sports update

    Football

    The Chaska football team moved to 1-1 on the season after a 31-6 win over New Prague Sept. 6.

    The Hawks utilized a balanced offensive attack, passing for 197 yards and running for 149.

    Matthew Welter completed 10 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown. Welter spread the ball around to seven different receivers — Jacob Welter (1 catch for 27 yards), Trey Castlla III (2 for 76), Jabez Jobirra (1 for 3), Joshua Wedel (1 for 10), Ryder Martin (1 for 7), Tyler Forrest (2 for 28) and Maxwell Epple (2 for 46).

    Aniebet Udofot ran for 50 yards, Morgan Engeman ran for 24, Quinn Meyer ran for 36, Welter ran for 36 and Mason Gutowsky had a 3-yard run.

    Jacob Welter had a sack and Nolan Raser had an interception.

    The Hawks travel to Mankato East Sept. 13.

    Volleyball

    The Chaska volleyball team moved to 8-2 on the season with a six-win week. The Hawks defeated Shakopee 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23) and Benilde-St. Margaret’s 3-1 (25-15, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20) before moving on to the Southwest Minnesota Challenge, where they went 4-1.

    The Hawks defeated Sioux Falls Roosevelt 2-1 (23-25, 25-22, 15-7), Marshall 2-1 (12-25, 25-17, 15-10), Alexandria 2-1 (23-25, 25-21, 15-6) and Northfield 2-0 (25-21, 25-23). Their lone loss was to Canby 2-1 (18-25, 25-20, 9-15).

    Boys soccer

    The Chaska boys soccer team went 1-1-1 last week, falling 2-3 to Buffalo, tying Benilde-St. Margaret’s 0-0 and defeating Bloomington Kennedy 3-2.

    In the 3-2 win, Fernando Michaca Sanchez scored twice, while Marco Betancourt Soto scored off an assist from Gilbert Oaxaca.

    Jacob Steffes scored against Buffalo off an assist from Aiden Dualan and Eddie Valencia also scored.

    Girls soccer

    The Chaska girls soccer team defeated Holy Family Catholic 2-0 before a 1-1 tie with Benilde-St. Margaret’s and a 3-1 loss to Minneapolis Washburn.

    Kaydence Landree scored twice in the win over the Fire, with assists coming from Addison Schneider and Addison Perkins. Katie O’Connor had four saves in the shutout win.

    Margaret Hoffer scored against B-SM with an assist from Perkins.

    Landree scored off an assist from Schneider in the loss to Minneapolis.

    Cross country

    The Chaska cross country team competed in the Bauman/Rovn Invitational Sept. 5, where the girls took fourth out of 12 teams.

    Noella Ross led the girls with a third-place finish of 19 minutes, 45.5 seconds and was followed by Sidney Fuhr (20:09.8), Maria Knott (20:10.5), Rebecca Ross (21:59.4), Addison Webb (22:25.5), Adonai Yidnekachew (22:29.7) and Lilian Gramith (23:26.4).

    Evan Dougherty led the boys with a time of 17:04 and was followed by Ivan Peterson (17:51.2), Tait Gatz (18:18.9), Milo Young (18:55.8), Casey Schaal (19:41.5), James Meserth (19:55.3) and Holden Higgins (20:10.8).
