The Wildcats and the Tigers went back and forth in the first half.

Waconia started out with a bang by going 1-2-3 in the first individual event of the night, the 200 yard freestyle, as Hailey Stotko won the event with a time of 2 minutes, 5.47 seconds and was followed by Mallory Haas (2:11.96) and Adelyn Lant (2:14.07).

The meet was tied after the diving break, before the butterflyers quickly erased the tie by going 1-2-3 and putting the Wildcats up 10 points.

“We never looked back after that and dominated the second half of the meet,” said coach Ashley Westphal.

In the 100 butterfly, Amalia Schaefer led the way with a 1:05.68 and was followed by Stella Hansen (1:08.46) and Lant (1:10.84).

Laura Stockinger picked up individual wins the 100 freestyle (55.85) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.81) and was a part of both winning freestyle relays. The 200 freestyle relay team of Stockinger, Hailey Stotko, Ella Floeter and Ava Pavek won with a time of 1:44.54. The 400 freestyle relay team of Stockinger, Pavek, Haas and Stotko won with a time of 3:56.44.

Along with Stockinger’s win, Ruthie Cotant and Nina Sinclair went second and third in the backstroke to put the ‘Cats 1-2-3 (1:04.19 and 1:09.98).

The Wildcat’s B relays picked up every third place to help solidify the victory for the Wildcats.

“This is a good AA win and put us at 3-0 on the year,” said Westphal.

The victory was never in question as the Wildcats dominated conference foe BSM from start to finish. The ‘Cats also check off one of their early season goals in defeating the Red Knights.

Waconia took a quick 10-2 lead by going 1-3 in the medley relay as Stockinger, Pavek, Stotko and Kate Stineman took first place (1:57.34) and the team of Cotant, Schaefer, Lant and Olivia Engkjer took third (2:01.90).

Waconia won every individual event in the first half with Hailey Stotko winning the 200 freestyle (2:05.17), Ava Pavek in the 200 IM (2:26.06), and Laura Stockinger in the 50 freestyle (25.60).

Along with Pavek, Ruthie Cotant and Ady Lant went second and third in the 200 IM (2:28.17 and 2:33.64), solidifying the early lead for the ‘Cats.

The divers also joined the scoring frenzy by going 2-3-4 in the diving competition. Graecie Smith took second (138 points) and was followed by Hazel Lyons (121.85) and Mya Sannes (120.90).

Once again, the Wildcat B relays took all the third places earning big time points for the team.

“This is a huge Metro West Conference victory putting us at 2-0 in the Conference and 4-0 overall,” said Westphal.

Waconia travels to St.Louis Park on Thursday for a Metro West Conference dual and to St. Peter on Saturday for the St.Peter Invite.
