    Waconia football team moves to 2-1

    After a hot start to the season saw the Waconia football team jump up to the No. 5 ranking in Class 5A, the ‘Cats lost a close game at Mankato West. Waconia raced out to a 14-0 lead before the break, before the Scarlets scored 17 unanswered points in the second half to win 17-14.

    Kaden Herman completed eight passes for 103 yards and a score, connecting with Ryan Lange twice for 38 yards and a touchdown, Mason Speers four times for 31 yards, Cooper Jahnke once for 30 yards and Wil Goldschmidt once for 4 yards.

    Goldschmidt was just shy of a 100-yard day on the ground, taking 20 carries for 96 yards (4.8 yards per carry). Tyler Ess had a 41-yard rushing touchdown, Herman and Nickolas Theis both had 8 yards rushing.

    Jahnke had 18 tackles in the game, Ess had 12, while William Kirsch and Liam Jambor-May both had 10.

    The Wildcats return to action to host Chanhassen at home on Sept. 20.
