Helen Bassett is running for re-election to the Robbinsdale Area Schools Board of Education. She has served on the board since 2002.

"This campaign is one of the most consequential runs of my elective career," Bassett said. "I am running again, because I want to focus squarely with colleagues and the superintendent on the best learning environment for students and staff. I will champion sound governing principles, as a solid advocate for our students and staff, using the application of credible and proven principles."

Bassett said she has learned from each of her years on the board.

"I have demonstrated a steady and balanced approach for over two decades balancing divergent ideas, with respect and resolve. I have successfully advocated for our richly diverse community, through successful referenda, redistricting, school closures, and successful navigation with colleagues through the pandemic, from start to finish," Bassett added.

Bassett said she will use a mix of experience and learning new things if re-elected.

"Five of the current seven board directors are in their first term. Fresh eyes and ideas can reach their fullest potential when balanced with solid governance practices, policies, and supportive proven experience. I am committed to learning new methods when needed, changes where necessary, personally, and professionally seeking to continuously improve. I will collaborate with others to support academic achievement, future-ready, and safe facilities, within an environment that best suits learning. If returned to service by you, the community, I am confident that along with you, colleagues, and the new superintendent we will meet the challenges of the future."

The election will be Tuesday, Nov. 5.
