Park Center Cheer completes three-peat as Game Day Cheer state champions
The Park Center competitive cheer team returned to the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association state tournament last week where it won a historic third consecutive state title in the Game Day varsity category Jan. 27 at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul. The win qualified the team for the National High School Cheerleading Championship tournament, which is scheduled for Feb. 9-12 at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. The Pirates won the state title in 2022 and 2023 ahead of similarly competitive nationals showings. Park Center finished second at National High School Cheerleading Championship in 2022 and fourth in 2023. Park Center’s Haniyah Dabney was named to the team of excellence at the state banquet awards.
Four AC alpine skiers earn all-conference honors
The Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper Alpine skiing co-op team completed its Northwest Suburban season on Jan. 25 with a final conference race at Trollhaugen in Dresser, Wis. Four Armstrong/Cooper athletes earned All-Vonference honors by placing in the top 23 spots for boys and girls from their individual best four out of five races. Breck Swanson earned fourth and Jameson Kubitschek-Myers earned ninth. Megan Swanson earned 12th and Sarah Francis earned 23rd. Both Kubtischek-Myers and Megan Swanson earned All-Vonference honors last year as well. The Section 6 meet is scheduled for Feb. 6 at Buck Hill in Burnsville. Qualifiers will move on to the state Alpine meet, which is scheduled for Feb. 13 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
Mustangs boys hoops wins IMAC, Freitag hits 2,000 career points
The Breck boys basketball team notched two important pieces of history to its belt last week. By beating Providence Academy 93-38 at home on Jan. 23, the Mustangs ensured winning the Independent Metro Athletic Conference title for 2023/24, holding a 7-0 conference record after the win.
