University of Minnesota alumna Krissy Wendell-Pohl has been named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s Top 25 Team. League of Women Voters celebrates 75 years in Golden Valley
Since 1946, the Golden Valley League of Women Voters has worked to inform and encourage citizen participation in government. The group is part of larger national and state leagues and is entirely nonpartisan. At the Oct. 17 Golden Valley City Council meeting, a proclamation was issued thanking the league for the seven and a half decades of work. Today, people regardless of gender can join the league. The first man joined in 1974. Anyone over the age of 16 can join. To get involved with the League of Women Voters, go to lwv.org and search for the nearest local chapter. There will be an event celebrating the anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Brookview Valley Room, 316 Brookview Parkway S., Golden Valley. Champlin Park’s run in the Section 5AA girls tennis team tournament came to a close on Oct. 9 with a 6-1 loss to Maple Grove in the semifinals, after defeating Coon Rapids and Rogers in the previous rounds.
