It was blue skies and rainbows in Brookview Park on June 8 to celebrate the sixth annual Golden Valley Pride at Brookeview Park. The family-friendly festival was back with two entertainment stages; a beer, wine, and cider garden featuring craft beer from Utepils Brewing; bouncy houses tucked away in the park; food trucks; and more than 100 community groups and exhibitors. Golden Valley Pride, which began in 2016 as the first Minnesota suburban pride festival, is a celebration of Golden Valley LGBTQ+ individuals, families, and friends. Motorcyclist crashes, dies in Robbinsdale
A speeding motorcyclist died last week at a Robbinsdale intersection. On June 7, a Crystal police officer observed a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on 42nd Avenue North near Winnetka Avenue. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the motorcycle fled from the officer at a high rate of speed eastbound. After less than two minutes, the officer lost sight of the motorcycle and discontinued the pursuit. ...
Candidates file for city of Robbinsdale seats
The filing period for the Nov. 5 elections capable of having primaries closed June 4. Three seats in Robbinsdale are up for election. For mayor, Bradley Sutton was the lone candidate who filed. For Ward 1 council member, Charles Austinson, Raymond Blackledge and Richard D. Terrell filed. For Ward 2 council member, David Dirkers, Jason Greenberg, Kyle Bille and Dr. Carissa Wyant filed. For the Ward 2 special primary election, Dirkers and Greenberg received the most amount of votes in the primary and will now be on the ballot for the Ward 2 special general election, which will take place Aug. 13.

Robbinsdale Schools pulls superintendent video
In the June 6 edition of the Sun Post , an article ran titled “Teri Staloch, new superintendent: Robbinsdale Schools scoops up St. Louis Park runner-up" (the online version can be found here) The article stated that Staloch’s interview can be viewed online at rdale.org/discover/school-board. Her comments about the racist video incident begin at 1:11:30 of the May 28 video labeled “Superintendent Deliberations.” The district later reached out to the Sun Post saying, “The records were up for a few days but are no longer on the website.” People wishing to view the deliberations video need to email the director of technology Sue Holtz at sue_holtz@rdale.org and request the video via the Freedom of Information Act. The communications department for Robbinsdale Area Schools did not provide a reason for taking the video down.
Brooklyn Center has a new police chief
Brooklyn Center has found its next police chief. Garett Flesland, an area native and and longtime officer at the agency, was named the city's newest chief this week. Flesland had been serving Brooklyn Center Police Department as a commander. He began work at the department in 2001, working his way up from patrol officer to detective, sergeant to commander. Robbinsdale schools gives up on mediation, an investigation is happening instead
The Robbinsdale Area Schools Board of Directors has been struggling to communicate and reach agreements. The board initially contracted with a Mediation Center late last year to resolve board conflicts. In March, the mediators interviewed the seven board members, cabinet members and others. They then created a report and suggested the next steps in May. Mediators claimed the board struggles with a lack of collaboration, a lack of board structure and process and a lack of inclusive culture.
