Perpich artist heads to Washington, DC
Perpich Junior Milo Clifton, a resident of South St. Paul, took first place in the 5th Congressional District Art Competition. Clifton’s piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, and he will receive two tickets to fly to Washington, D.C. to attend the National Arts Competition Ceremony and a tour of the Capitol. Fight at Armstrong leads to stay-at-home day
A fight reportedly broke out during fifth and sixth periods at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School on May 15, which prompted the district to hold a remote learning day on May 16. Per an email sent from Principal Erick Norby to to Armstrong families, “several students were involved in a fight.” Norby said the building was in a “hold,” for periods six and seven and then school was dismissed. “A building ‘hold’ is when we ask students to remain at their current location until an announcement is made to resume their normally scheduled activities,” Norby explained. The following day, May 16, classes were asynchronous. Most students checked into Schoology on school-issued devices from home. After-school activities ran as scheduled.
Pirates baseball finishes second in Tri-Metro conference
Park Center/Columbia Heights/Maranatha Academy baseball played its penultimate week of the regular season last week, playing five games from May 13 to 17, winning two, both in the Tri-Metro Conference. The Robbinsdale Area School district has been searching for a new superintendent since David Engstrom resigned in July. While Marti Voight has been acting as interim superintendent, the Minnesota School Boards Association has been contracted to help the district find a permanent person. ELECTION RESULTS: Dirkers, Greenburg advance in Robbinsdale primary
The city of Robbinsdale held a primary for the Ward 2 council member position May 14. According to unofficial vote tallies, David Dirkers and Jason Greenburg will advance to the Aug. 13 special election. Dirkers, with 142 votes, earned 44.65% of the vote. Greenberg, with 85 votes, earned 26.73% of the vote. Kyle Bille, with 62 votes, earned 19.5% of the vote. Christopher James Rasmussen, with 29 votes, earned 9.12% of the vote. No votes were counted for Marc Akerlind. The Robbinsdale canvassing board meeting will be Tuesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Robbinsdale City Hall, Council Chambers to certify results of the Ward 2 Councilmember special primary election. Early voting for the Ward 2 Special General Election starts on June 28.
