For over three decades, those who love strawberries—strawberry everything –cakes, ice cream and just plain strawberries, have looked forward to that special day in June when the Colonial Club features the delicious berries at their annual StrawberryFest.

Strawberries have a lot of fun facts going for them. Did you know each berry has over 200 seeds on its surface, that they are members of the rose family, and ancient records show they were grown in Rome dating back to 200 BC?

This year, those attending the June 15 event can meet local veterinarian Dr. Marty Greer and her team, whose two Sun Prairie clinics, CheckIn Veterinary and CheckOut Veterinary, have sponsored the festival three times.

Pet owners will also have an opportunity to get to know the Sun Prairie veterinary services beyond the festival grounds.

Dr. Greer explained, “We will be handing out a card during StrawberryFest to pet owners that provides a ‘First Exam Free’ visit at our CheckOut Veterinary for new pets.”

    Accessing Services

Natures Preserve Pet Care was recently renamed to CheckIn Veterinary, but Dr. Greer noted the services have not changed.

The CheckOut clinic, opened three years ago, is a one-of-a-kind veterinary clinic.

“We are the only drive-through/drive-in veterinary small animal clinic in the U.S. This helps you and your pet receive more convenient care seven days a week, including Saturday and Sunday,” Greer said.

The drive-through clinic exemplifies the ‘Fear Free’ style of veterinary care. Pet owners find there is no waiting room or interactions with other pets, which allows dog and cat patients to feel more at-ease. In fact, pet owners can stay in their car and watch the exam through a large glass window if they like.

CheckOut offers outpatient care such as routine blood work, vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventives and limited care for sick and injured pets.

Since CheckOut is open on Saturdays and Sunday, if serious or complicated cases arise, these are referred to referral centers, the UW Veterinary School, or CheckIn on weekdays.

    Recipient of National Awards

Since 2020, Dr. Greer has been nationally honored as an outstanding veterinarian.

In 2020, she received the John Steiner Practitioner of the Year award from the Society for Theriogenology. “This award is given to a veterinarian chosen unanimously by their peers in animal reproduction (Theriogenology),” she explained.

Last year, she received the” Westminster Veterinarian of the Year” award from the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club, known for hosting one of the country’s oldest continuously running sporting events, the Westminster Dog Show, (founded in 1877), second only in longevity to the Kentucky Derby, which began in 1875.

Dr. Greer explained the significance of the Westminster award. “Veterinarians are nominated by their clients to recognize veterinarians in the dog community and to raise awareness of the mental health challenges within the veterinary community,” she said.

She pointed out both awards have significant meaning to her personally. “On one hand, it is wonderful to receive an award from other veterinarians who appreciate the work done in the field of canine reproduction. But it is also very rewarding to be recognized by our clients, who appreciate our work in the trenches of daily practice.,” she said.

Both CheckIn and CheckOut clinics share treatment care plans with your resources in mind.

“That word ‘share’ might mean your pet’s care could be shared between our three locations,” Dr. Greer said. “It may also mean we’ll provide you with medication you can administer per your own schedule or treatment alternatives you can afford. Whatever the circumstances, we will be there for you.”
