    Orioles pick up Metro West track crowns

    Park 4x100 boys and girls sweep sprint relay at conference championships

    The Metro West Conference crowned track and field champions May 15 at New Prague High School with Waconia boys topping Chanhassen by 10 points (141-131) and Chanhassen girls beating New Prague by 17 points (128-111) for the respective team titles.

    St. Louis Park boys placed sixth (44) and the girls were fifth (91), 1.5 points behind fourth-place Chaska (92.5).

    BSM boys and girls each placed eighth.

    The Orioles garnered multiple event champions with both 4x100m relay teams earning gold medals. The girls team of juniors Anna Williams, Nevaeh Carlson, Amara Schroeder and senior Embriah Iyamba won in 51.16 seconds.

    The 4x100 relay boys team included seniors Daniel Zilka, Sam Stroebel Pilner and Brady Schultz and junior Cordell Birden winning in 43.74.

    Birden cemented his place as a top-sprinter in the conference with second-place finishes in the 100m and 200m dashes. He ran an 11.40 in the 100m finishing only behind Orono’s Victor Ruhland. In the 200m he posted a time of 22.97 while Chanhassen’s James Kopfmann won it in 22.74. Zilka was 12th in the 100m in 12.04 and Stroebel Pilner was ninth in the 200m in 23.72.

    Park senior Jakob Eenigenburg was third in the 400m in a season-best 51.43 and Oliver Tadwald was eighth in 53.09, a personal-best time.

    Park’s 4x200 relay of Stroebel Pliner, Tadewald, Everett Arnold and Eenigenburg was third in 1:33.77.

    Orioles junior Ace Thomas won the long jump with a PR of 19 feet, 10 inches while Arnold, a freshman teammate, was third going 19-06.

    Benilde-St. Margaret’s junior sprinter Khalif Brown was fifth in the 100m dash in 11.51 and 15th in the 200m dash in 24.39.

    Girls

    Two Park relays were second including the 4x200 relay of Embriah Iyamba, Audry Martin, Anna Healey and Carlson in 1:49.89 and the 4x400 relay with Anna Williams, Hanna Wilsey, Healey and Jersey Miller finished in 4:12.11.

    Miller was second in the 800m in a PR of 2:21.89 and Wilsey was sixth in 2:24.76. In the 1,600m Miller was runner-up in 5:19.56 and Wilsey was eighth in a PR of 5:27.70.

    Park junior Meaghan Knight won the long jump going 16-8 3/4 was third in the 300m hurdles in 49.69 after a disqualification in the 100m hurdles. She was fourth in the high jump clearing 4-10.

    Orioles senior Ruby Massie was fifth in the triple jump clearing a PR of 33-3.

    Benilde-St. Margaret’s Ames Leber was second in the high jump clearing the bar set at five feet.
