The Park Legion baseball team regrouped for a 7-6 win over Maple Grove on Sunday to close out the Gopher Classic on a high note after losing the first four games at the Maple Grove site.

Cole Denham’s hard ground ball to right field opened the seventh inning for the Railcats before coming around to score on a balk call with Jack Mobley at the plate.

Sivanich brought in Danny Montanez with a two-out line drive single up the middle to take a 7-4 lead.

Mobley ended up flying out to right field as the starting catcher had quite the game going 3-for-4.

Maple Grove wasn’t going away easy as Tanner Albeck launched a two-run home run with one out. After a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Post 172 used a single and hit-by-pitch to put the winning run on base.

Isaac Schulman came through with his second strikeout of the inning for Park to end the game on a three-pitch at bat. Schulman earned the win on the mound in 3 1/3 innings of relief. He allowed two runs on five hits.

Goodman gave up four runs on two hits over 3 2/3 innings with three walks and one strikeout.

Eight different Railcats had a hit in the game including doubles from Montanez and Nathanael Brown. Brown and Schulman each drove in two runs. Graham Sullivan drew a pair of walks to get on base and Charlie Odens scored twice and stole one base.

Park opened the tournament with an 8-0 loss to Wausau Post 10 from Wisconsin on Friday.

Denham and Geiber Silva were the only Railcats to pick up a hit in the five-inning game.

Saturday’s doubleheader began with a 10-5 loss to Rock Island Post 200 from Illinois before Lincoln East from Nebraska blanked Park 6-0.

The Railcats outhit Rock Island 12-7 but couldn’t push those runs across as the top four batters in the lineup each had multiple hits. Sullivan and Denham each had three hits while Schulman and Alex Hokenson each had two hits. Hokenson came through with a double and scored twice.

Jacob Martenson worked the opening 3 2/3 innings allowing nine runs, eight earned with six hits. He struck out three and walked three batters before Iverson calmed down the Rock Island bats over the final 2 1/3 innings. He allowed one run on one hit, one walk and one strikeout.

Sunday began with a 9-3 loss to Mankato as the Railcats opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a Denham single driving in Sullivan with a two-out liner to center field.

Mobley scored in the third inning on an error by the right fielder on Schulman’s grounder to right field to make it a 5-2 game.

Park made it 9-3 after Denham was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Sullivan scored from third base on a passed ball.
