    Edina aquatics team sinks Hopkins 92-80

    Edina High’s girls aquatics team maintained an undefeated record by defeating Hopkins 92-80 in a Lake Conference dual meet Sept. 19.

    The Hornets opened with a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200-yard medley relay. First place went to Jane Hughes, Ellie Katz, Anja Nymo and Frances Muir with a time of 1:56.86. Gwenyth Maclachlan, Sophie Katz, Ally Hahn and Audrey Peterson were second in 1:57.06. Tilly Katz, Grace Hauck, Audrey Tate and Kaya Ygona took third in 1:58.62.

    Edina added a sweep in the 200-yard freestyle with Libbi McCarthy, Siggy Nymo and Megan Greenberg. McCarthy’s winning time was 1:56.50.

    Audrey Peterson of the Hornets won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.73 with teammates Taylor Thompson and Hahn placing second and third.

    Anja Nymo win the 50 freestyle in 25.70 with teammates Ygona and Greenberg taking second and third places.

    Zara Karimi of the Hornets scored 288.65 to win diving competition. Hopkins’ Cassie Kaplan was second with 222.15 and Addi Walters of Hopkins took third.

    Edina swept the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly with Bobbi Simmons, Maclachlan and Tate. Simmons’ time was 59.84.

    The Hornets swept in the 100 freestyle with Macy Malinski, Muir and Ellie Katz. Malinski’s winning time was 53.08.

    Siggy Nymo gave the Hornets first place in the 500 freestyle in 5:18.57. Second and third places went to Clara Kozlowicz and Harper Buschmann of Hopkins.

    With a victory secured, Edina swam exhibition only in the last four events.

    Nyla West, Madelyn Walvoord, Madi Olson and Buschmann of Hopkins won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.67. Edina’s best exhibition time was 1:44.21 by Sophie Katz, Simmons, Anja Nymo and Audrey Peterson.

    Sadie Steckler and Mya Low of Hopkins finished 1-2 in the 100 backstroke. Edina’s Muir had an exhibition time of 1:01.49.

    Hopkins’ top three in the 100 breaststroke were Olson, Elliott Lee and Lila Scherwinski. Olson’s time was 1:20.74. Edina had an exhibition time of 1:10.22 from Thompson.

    The Royals’ winning team in the 400 freestyle relay consisted of Kozlowicz, Walvoord, Olson and Buschmann. Edina had an exhibition time of 3:44.27 with McCarthy, Ygona, Ellen McClees and Malinski.
