Wyoming Area has landed a home court in Class 2A and Pittston Area appears to have captured the final available spot in Class 3A for the District 2 girls tennis team tournament.

Both teams have completed their seasons.

District playoff power rankings and seedings will not become official until some teams, mostly in the Lackawanna League, complete their schedules early in the week.

Wyoming Area and Pittston Area, however, appear to be settled into their positions in those rankings.

The Lady Warriors wrapped up a 10-3 regular season, leaving them third, behind Wyoming Seminary and Scranton Prep, the two league champions. A group of 16 teams was seeking the eight spots in the Class 2A tournament.

Wyoming Area will open at home Friday against the sixth seed, most likely Dallas or Holy Cross.

There are 12 Class 3A teams seeking those eight spots. Pittston Area finished 5-7 and is eighth in the rankings with its position unlikely to change.

The Lady Patriots will open district play at the top-seeded team Friday, likely traveling to either Delaware Valley or Crestwood.

Wyoming Area finished 10-2 in the Wyoming Valley Conference, third behind Wyoming Seminary and Crestwood.

Pittston Area went 5-7 in the WVC to place eighth out of 13 teams.

    Crestwood 3, Wyoming Area 2

Second-place was decided Thursday when Crestwood won at Wyoming Area in the completion of a suspended match, concluding the WVC season.

Wyoming Area 5, Holy Redeemer 0

Wyoming Area won every point in straight sets during Tuesday’s WVC match at Holy Redeemer.

Sarah Willison had the most decisive victory, picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.

Emma Kratz and Molly Kratz won the other singles matches while Selena Nova-Erica Gilligan and Lily Kasa-Natalie Leibman won in doubles.
