    HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Crestwood edges Pittston Area in first-place golf battle

    The list of unbeaten Wyoming Valley Conference golf teams was reduced from three to two Friday when Crestwood defeated Pittston Area 161-166 at Blue Ridge Trail.

    The Comets, Patriots and Wyoming Seminary entered the day with 6-0 records.

    Pittston Area’s Patrick Ruane was medalist with a 1-under-par, 35, but Crestwood had the other three players who broke 40.

    Tommy Biscotti led the Comets with 37, Sienna Smith shot 38 and Brady Johnson 39.

    Ryan Noone had a 41 for Wyoming Area. Nick Cook, Chris Scavo and Noah Gruber each shot 45.

    Wyoming Area 166, Tunkhannock 181

    Aiden August shot 38 at Fox Hill Country Club Fridayto help Wyoming Area jump back over .500 at 5-4.

    Kristian Pugliese (41), Mario Belza (42) and Robbie Yatsko (45) completed the team score.

    Wyoming Seminary 151, Wyoming Area 152

    Wyoming Area’s Kristian Pugliese was medalist with a 35, but Wyoming Seminary pulled out the one-stroke victory Wednesday at Huntsville Golf Club to remain unbeaten.

    Mario Belza added a 37 in the loss. Jeremy Layland and Mitchell Rusinchak each shot 40.

    Wyoming Area 154, Berwick 175

    Aiden August shot 36 and two teammates also broke 40 to lead Wyoming Area to Monday’s victory at Fox Hill.

    Mario Belza added a 37 and Robbie Yatsko a 39.

    Pittston Area 151, Holy Redeemer 163

    Drew Nocito shot a 36 to lead Pittston Area to the victory Monday at Lehman Golf Club.

    Patrick Ruane and Nick Cook each shot 37s to give the Patriots the three best scores in the match.

    GIRLS TENNIS

    Wyoming Area 5, Wyoming Valley West 0

    Wyoming Area players produced six 6-0 sets during Friday’s sweep at home.

    No. 2 singles player Molly Kratz and the No. 2 doubles team of Selena Nova-Natalie Leibman, 6-0, 6-0.

    Emma Kratz and the doubles team of Erica Gilligan-Lily Kasa each won a 6-0 set in the No. 1 spots.

    Sarah Willison provided the other point for the Lady Warriors (3-1).

    Wyoming Seminary 5, Pittston Area 0

    Defending champion Wyoming Seminary swept Wednesday’s WVC match.

    Gabby Gorzkowski, at No. 3 singles, and Sophia Montagna-Emily Hannan, at No. 2 doubles, each won three games in defeat to lead Pittston Area’s efforts.

    Pittston Area 4, Holy Redeemer 1

    Pittston Area broke through with its first win of the season Tuesday, defeating Holy Redeemer.

    Wyoming Seminary 5, Wyoming Area 0

    Wyoming Seminary won each match in straight sets during Monday’s meeting of WVC unbeatens.

    Eric Gilligan-Lily Kasa won four games at second doubles for the closest of those matches.

    Tunkhannock 5, Pittston Area 0

    Pittston Area lost on the road Monday.

    GIRLS SOCCER

    Hanover Area 2, Pittston Area 1

    Pittston Area fell to 0-3 with Friday’s non-league loss at home.

    Wyoming Area 5, Wallenpaupack 2

    Ava Musinski scored two goals and assisted on two more Thursday as Wyoming Area remained undefeated with the non-league win at Wallenpaupack.

    Julianne Potter opened the scoring. Musinski then added a goal on an Adie Kostik assist and set up Ella Shepulski’s goal for a 3-0 halftime lead.

    Emily Kostik scored in the second half between Wallenpaupack goals.

    The Lady Warriors are 2-0-1.

    Wyoming Area 1, Wilkes-Barre Area 1

    Wyoming Area and Wilkes-Barre Area remained tied through two overtimes in Monday’s non-league game.

    Adie Kostik broke a scoreless tie early in the second half, but Wilkes-Barre Area’s Jackelynn Rico answered less than six minutes later.

    The Lady Warriors finished with a 10-9 lead in shots on goal and each team had three corner kicks.

    Abby Francis made eight saves for Wyoming Area.

    Wyoming Area 5, Honesdale 0

    Adie Kostik finished with two goals and two assists as Wyoming Area dominated the Aug. 24 opener, a non-league game at Honesdale.

    Ava Musinski also scored twice.

    The Lady Warriors led 25-4 in shots on goal and 5-0 in corner kicks.

    Ella Shepulski also scored.

    Julianne Potter and Alana Zdancewicz had assists.

    Abby Francis made four saves for the shutout.

    Wallenpaupack 4, Pittston Area 0

    Wallenpaupack posted the shutout in Monday’s non-league game.

    BOYS SOCCER

    Holy Redeemer 1, Pittston Area 0

    Charlie Shaffer’s first-half goal held up as the game-winner for Holy Redeemer in Thursday’s non-league game.

    The Patriots fell to 0-2.

    Valley View 3, Wyoming Area 1

    Wyoming Area dropped to 1-1 when it lost Thursday’s non-league game at Valley View.

    Wyoming Area 6, MMI Prep 1

    Ben Nichol scored a hat trick as the Warriors won Tuesday in their season opener and WVC Division 2 opener.

    Brady Kearns, Ben Rogish and Gus Price also scored.

    Noah Kostik had three assists while Nichol and Kearns had one each.

    Hayden Laughman made six saves for the win.

    Hanover Area 3, Pittston Area 0

    Pittston Area lost its opener, a non-league game, Tuesday.

    GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

    Abington Heights 3, Pittston Area 0

    Krempasky served a streak of 12 points, including eight aces, as Abington Heights won Wednesday’s non-league match at Pittston Area, 25-10, 25-14, 25-15.
