Propane leak causes evacuation in Tuesday’s storm
WILLIAMSBURG, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — In Williamsburg, a tree came down on a 500 gallon propane tank and vehicle. The propane tank was reported to be nearly full and as a result of the leak and resulting high levels of gas in the areas, residents were evacuated to the Anne T. Dunphy School. A woman who ignored her veterinarian’s advice to euthanize her dog but instead took him home to die did not commit a crime, the Supreme Judicial Court decided Monday in a case brought by state prosecutors and supported by multiple animal rights groups.
Campus-wide Fire Hydrant Flushing Underway
Facilities and Campus Services is currently performing an annual flushing of campus fire hydrants. The hydrant flushing, which began July 8 and will continue for approximately five weeks, will be performed weekdays from 4-7 a.m. and 3-9 p.m., and on Saturdays from 4-7 a.m. Hydrants on the perimeter of the campus will be flushed during the morning, and those at the center of campus will be flushed during the late afternoon/early evening.

ERVING, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Erving Selectboard discussed four potential plans for the partial demolition and restoration of the International Paper Mill property last week. Student Profile: Shay Hamel ’26 Following Family Footsteps at Westfield State
Shay Hamel ‘26, a junior at Westfield State University, is majoring in elementary education with a minor in Spanish. Her passion for Spanish began in middle school and continued through high school, leading her to pursue the language at the collegiate level. Hamel is a third-generation Westfield State student, following in the footsteps of her grandfather and mother, who were also elementary education majors. Because of the University’s well-known reputation for offering high-quality education at an affordable rate, Hamel said that the choice to pursue elementary education here was easy.
