Wilmington woman to compete in inaugural World Axe & Knife Throwing 'Blade Masters Tournament'
A woman in Wilmington will compete in a national tournament for one of the fastest-growing sports --- axe and knife throwing.Paige Julian picked up the sport only about a year and a half ago. Since then, she has performed well in hatchet axe and knife throwing and even got a chance to judge a competition.She said to be competing on ESPN is shocking. But, she wants to take advantage and be a trailblazer for other women in the sport."I think this win would mean everything for me, especially being a female. Because in most of the axe throwing (or) knife throwing, it's always men in the final," Julian said. Crews set to break ground on long-awaited Myrtle Beach performing arts center
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - You’ll hear the sound of drills and hammers before music fills the air in downtown Myrtle Beach. Crews will break ground Monday on the long-awaited performing arts theater in the Arts and Innovation District. A ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at 811 Main Street, with free parking available at the Myrtle Beach Trian Depot.
Myrtle Beach gas prices dip, stay below national average
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Gas prices in the Myrtle Beach area dipped by over 15 cents in the last week, according to experts at GasBuddy. GasBuddy says average gas prices fell by 16.6 cents, bringing the average to $3.05 per gallon according to a survey of nearly 200 stations. The price of diesel also fell by four cents, now standing at $3.79 per gallon.
Myrtle Beach to install new waterline
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Crews in Myrtle Beach will soon begin installing a new water line in the city. The city said the installation will begin in September at the “Mama Canal” located near Broadway Grand Prix. The new line will also replace an almost 40-year-old waterline. Officials added that the work would mainly begin at the corner of 29th Avenue North and Old Bryan Drive.
‘Wilmingtonian Ball’ to return for Williston alumni
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A beloved tradition for alumni of Williston High School will soon return to Wilmington. Until desegregation, Williston High School was Wilmington’s largest and most prominent high school for African Americans. Known as “the greatest school under the sun,” notable alumni include tennis champion Althea Gibson, Harlem Globetrotter Meadowlark Lemon, and Air Force General Joesph McNeil.

There is nothing to mark what was once the Scarborough family cemetery on Driftwood Street in Manteo. Listed by Dare County GIS as a 1,000-square foot cemetery, the site is on private property and is overgrown with shrubs and small trees. There is no access to it; it is on private property and the road that is closest to the cemetery is a private drive for Hatchell Concrete.
