The eighth D23 fan event, which took place between August 9 and 11, 2024, marked the unveiling of Human Torch / Johnny Storm’s suit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character, portrayed by Joseph Quinn, is slated to make his MCU debut along with Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm / The Thing in The Fantastic Four: First Steps , which premieres in U.S. theaters on July 25, 2025.

Joseph Quinn’s retro Human Torch costume revealed in D23 video message

Quinn, Pascal, Kirby, and Moss-Bachrach addressed the fans attending D23 in a video message from the London set of their film. Among the cast members, only Quinn wore what looks like the MCU Fantastic Four costume. Unlike superhero suits of the previous iterations of the character, this version doesn’t appear to be made out of state-of-the-art kevlar or other synthetic material. Instead, it seemingly comprises spandex pants; a sweater with a big “4” written right in the middle; a wide, white belt; and a relatively large pair of gloves. All this perfectly fits the purported retro setting of the movie.

The other three had their civilian clothes on. Pascal wore a cardigan on top of a white button-down shirt, while Kirby was wearing a black turtleneck. As for Moss-Bachrach, he had a zip-up hoodie on.

In the video , Pascal was the one who addressed the fans first. “We hope you’re having a great time in Anaheim,” he said. Kirby added, “Oh, we’re in the middle of the production. So, unfortunately, we can’t be with you today. Quinn continued the message, “We’re very excited to bring Marvel’s first family to life, and we’re very excited to share it with you.” Moss-Bachrach subsequently said, “Until then, Kevin [Feige] has some great surprises for you all today, and we will see you very soon.”

Matt Shakman, who previously directed all episodes of WandaVision for Marvel, is helming The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The cast of the film also includes Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal / Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.
