The recently released Deadpool & Wolverine has successfully won the hearts of its fans, owing to its fresh fourth-wall-breaking humor and unexpected cameos. As a result, the movie continues to amass a fortune at the global box office. Through the said cameos, the film also managed to pay homage to multiple legacy Marvel characters, such as Wesley Snipes’ Blade and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra . However, recent reports have disclosed that the Shawn Levy directorial feature originally intended to feature appearances from several other superheroes as well.

According to a recent reveal, Ben Affleck’s Daredevil and Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider were also taken into consideration while planning the cameo roster for Deadpool & Wolverine.

The news comes after Marvel Studios Visual Development Supervisor Rodney Fuentebella took to Instagram to share an unused but official concept for the movie. The picture showcased a grander version of the Deadpool Corps brawl featuring even more variants of the red-clad mercenary. To the surprise of fans, Affleck’s Daredevil and Cage’s Ghost Rider were also present in the extended battle sequence.

Until now, there was no official news of Ben Affleck or Nicolas Cage ever reprising their Marvel roles to cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie also experienced multiple delays during production due to rewrites, reshoots, as well as the actors’ and writers’ strikes. Consequently, adhering to the packed schedule of established stars like Cage and Affleck could have restricted Marvel from collaborating with the two actors, as per ScreenRant .

Affleck’s last big-screen appearance in the superhero genre occurred in 2023’s The Flash. Incidentally, DCEU’s final release, prior to the recruitment of James Gunn, was also the last time that fans got to see Cage as a superhero. Nevertheless, Deadpool & Wolverine’s narrative has opened the door for more forgotten Marvel superheroes to return to their roles in future MCU installments. As a result, Nicolas Cage and Ben Affleck could experience a last hurrah as Ghost Rider and Daredevil, respectively, in the upcoming Avengers movies.
