James McAvoy , known for his role as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise, recently shared his thoughts on the future of his character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While promoting his latest film Speak No Evil, McAvoy addressed the possibility that Marvel Studios may recast the role. This suggests a new direction for the X-Men in the MCU. As Marvel expands its film and series roster, McAvoy’s comments offer insight into how the studio might handle integrating beloved characters.

James McAvoy thinks Marvel will recast his Professor Charles Xavier

James McAvoy does not expect to reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X, in the MCU, believing the character will be recast.

While promoting his new film Speak No Evil in an interview with BuzzFeed UK, McAvoy said, “That’s very kind. Although, I suspect, with both [Mr. Tumnus in Narnia] and [the X-Men’s Charles Xavier], we will be seeing someone else play those roles.”

Since Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Marvel fans have eagerly awaited the X-Men’s MCU debut. McAvoy’s remarks suggest that Marvel Studios perhaps plans to recast these roles instead of bringing back former actors. The studio has not yet confirmed casting or release dates for the new X-Men films, leaving the franchise’s direction uncertain.

McAvoy also stars in the psychological thriller Speak No Evil, which has received favorable reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. The film holds a Metascore of 63 from 21 critic reviews, reflecting mixed but mostly positive reactions, and an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes , showing a strong early reception.

Directed by James Watkins, Speak No Evil follows an American family who is invited to a British estate. Their vacation turns into a tense psychological thriller. The film, releasing on September 13, 2024, stars McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, and Scoot McNairy in lead roles. Early reviews praise both the direction and McAvoy’s performance as standout elements.
