Destin Daniel Cretton directing Spider-Man 4 has already received the thumbs up from one of the stars of Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man franchise.

Tony Revolori , who portrays Peter Parker’s classmate Flash Thompson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe , recently reacted to learning that Cretton is in talks to direct the fourth entry in the Marvel Studios / Sony film series. While Cretton isn’t a lock just yet, the filmmaker already has a positive relationship with Marvel, having previously helmed the 2021 movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and co-created the upcoming Disney+ limited series, Wonder Man.

Revolori shared his thoughts on Cretton directing Spider-Man 4 to Screen Rant while promoting his latest project, the four-part animated miniseries Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy. “Oh, man. I’ve been a big fan of his since Short Term 12. He’s incredible. I think he’s an incredible filmmaker, and he did such a great job with Shang-Chi, and I’m excited,” the actor said. “I think he has a young adult sensibility to him, which is so awesome and cool. And I think it’s so needed for a character like Spider-Man, so I’m just beyond excited to see him do it. I didn’t even know that! This is the first time I’m hearing about it. That’s awesome. Great.”

So far, no actors have officially signed on for Spider-Man 4, although Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) and Zendaya (Michelle Jones-Watson) are reportedly closing new deals to return. Revolori, who appeared in the first three Spider-Man movies (2017’s Homecoming, 2019’s Far From Home, and 2021’s No Way Home), told Screen Rant that he would be down to return as well, saying, “As for what I could do? Who knows, but to be honest, I would [be] happy to join up with those people again. It was so much fun the first time.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with Revolori’s Flash being accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a notable departure from the comics where he joined the United States Army after graduation. It remains to be seen if the MCU will adapt any of Flash’s adult comic book history, such as the character losing both of his legs in the Iraq War and becoming the superhero Agent Venom after being bound to the Venom symbiote.

Spider-Man 4 could feature Venom and Knull

While plot details remain under wraps for Spider-Man 4, the movie is expected to pick up sometime after the events of No Way Home, which ended with Doctor Strange erasing everyone’s memories of Peter Parker to protect the multiverse. Insider Alex Perez recently reported that Spider-Man 4 could be another multiverse adventure , with Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom teaming with Holland’s web-slinger to defeat Knull, the creator of all symbiotes.

Spider-Man 4 does not yet have a release date.
