Magik Stars in New X-Men Solo Series

Originally introduced as the kid sister of Colossus , Illyana Rasputina grew into a hero in her own right. As Magik , she joined the New Mutants and became a mighty sorceress as well as a member of the X-Men . Now, Illyana will headline her own solo series, defending the world from mystic threats as only she can.

The new series will be written by rising star Ashley Allen , who made her Marvel debut in 2023 on Marvel Zombies: Black, White and Blood. However, Allen recently handled Magik, writing a solo special starring Illyana Rasputina for the Blood Hunt event. The art for the new series will be provided by Black Panther and Loki artist Germán Peralta .

Magik holds a unique place among X-Men

While introduced in the pages of X-Men, Magik has a stronger connection to the mystic side of the Marvel Universe. Abducted as child and taken to Limbo, Illyana seemingly aged seven years in an instant. It was during this time that she mastered her Mutant powers of teleportation, as well as magic. Wielding both sets of powers marks her as a unique character and as likely to appear alongside Doctor Strange as she is the other X-Men.

“I’m beyond excited to be returning to write Illyana,” Allen said regarding the new series. “Supernatural stories featuring characters with hearts of gold are my favorite, so this series has been a dream to write! I can’t wait for readers to experience the adventure we take Magik on to slay some demons… and maybe accept some of her own.”

“I am very excited about this project,” Peralta shared. “Magik is a character with an incredible background, surrounded by darkness and mystery. Additionally, she is visually spectacular in all her versions, and I personally love Chris Bachalo’s design. I really enjoy drawing action scenes, as well as emotionally-driven scenes, and Ashley Allen writes a super intriguing script, where she balances both of these types of situations, making my job even more fun than it already is. I mean, what artist wouldn’t love to draw Magik with her great sword facing all kinds of demons?”

Magik #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on January 8, 2025.
