The release date for Agatha All Along is just around the corner, and Marvel fans are waiting eagerly for the Disney Plus series to come out. One of the characters joining Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha on her journey is Joe Locke’s Teen , who will be making his MCU debut with Agatha All Along. While specific details regarding his character remain unknown, Marvel has confirmed Teen to be homosexual. In a recent discussion, the Heartstopper actor shed light on this creative decision while also reacting to people calling it the ‘gayest Marvel project’ to date.

Joe Locke says ‘gay’ is one of Agatha All Along’s ‘many layers’

As per Joe Locke, Marvel’s new series is a coherent amalgamation of several aspects, with Teen’s homosexuality being a part of it.

While talking to Variety , the 20-year-old star provided his take on fans labeling Agatha All Along as ‘gay.’ “It’s got many layers, and definitely gay is one of them,” the actor responded. He then highlighted the differences between the MCU project and Heartstopper. “[In] Heartstopper, the queerness is the plot of the show, whereas [with Agatha]…it’s not the driving force of the plot. Having these positive queer characters in the show, it’s great.”

In a previous interview with Variety, Joe Locke was questioned about how his role in Agatha All Along would impact the LGBTQ+ community in terms of pop culture. “I’ve never really thought about it,” responded Locke. “It’s one of those things that gets a bit stressful if you think about it too much.”

Prior to his casting as Teen in Agatha All Along, Joe Locke made a name for himself with the coming-of-age Netflix drama series, Heartstopper. The young actor appeared as Charlie Spring, who is also a homosexual character. The series has already aired two seasons, with its third installment set to come out on October 3, 2024.

Meanwhile, Agatha All Along will hit Disney Plus on September 18, 2024.
