The Ultimates #5 Preview Pits Captain America Against Hawkeye

It was revealed in July that The Ultimates would soon be seeing a new version of Hawkeye . However, this hero would be unlike any incarnation of the character seen before. The Ultimates #5 offers the first look at the new Ultimate Universe take on the Amazing Archer.

Written by Deniz Camp , with art by Juan Frigeri , Ultimates #5 finds Tony Stark in conference with Steve Rogers . The team is stretched thin and Tony is worried about whoever stole the high-tech arsenal he created for Hawkeye. Captain America is less concerned, as the weapons apparently went to someone with heroic intentions, striking at the corrupt corporation Roxxon. Still, the Sentinel of Liberty agrees to talk to the archer before their vigilantism becomes villainy.

Ultimates Hawkeye a new take on classic character

The first Hawkeye, Clint Barton , was originally created as an Iron Man villain. However, his turn to crime was driven by misunderstandings and he expressed a desire to reform. This led to a lengthy stint in the Avengers , where he was a rebellious but resolute member of the team under Captain America’s command.

The introduction of the Ultimates ‘ Hawkeye seem to honor and homage this history. However, all of Hawkeye’s actions to date, seemingly aimed at attacking a company famed for their dirty deeds, more closely resemble Green Arrow than the original Hawkeye. That, coupled with this Hawkeye’s Native American roots , suggests yet another change from the classic Marvel form.

The Ultimates #5 arrives in comic shops everywhere on October 9, 2024.
