Des Moines, IA – Iowa is set to experience a significant heatwave over the weekend and into the start of the week, with temperatures soaring across much of the state. Storm Chances Overnight, Warm and Muggy Conditions Continue
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A few showers and storms are possible in places overnight, but many areas are expected to remain dry. Storms are expected to form in Minnesota and work their way south overnight. These storms will be losing strength and dissipating as they move into Iowa, but areas north of Highway 30 could see a few showers and a storm between 3AM and 6 AM. Any activity that makes it into eastern Iowa is expected to diminish shortly after daybreak Sunday, so impacts to weekend plans are expected to be minimal. Lows tonight drop into the mid to upper 60s.
Tomorrow is the Main Day of Activities for 50107 Summerfest in Grand Junction
As the annual Grand Junction celebration gets underway today, tomorrow is a full day of festivities. The 50107 Summerfest begins with a 5K run/walk with free registrations at 8:30am and the race to start at 9am at Fouch Agriservice. Also from 9am-noon is the book sale at the library and from 9am-3pm is a petting with cow pie bingo. At 10am the Grand Junction Horizons Club will serve breakfast at the community center with an eggless casserole, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, and a beverage for $5, followed by the parade at 11am.
2 area airport weather tracking sites disabled with new FAA guidelines
DES MOINES, Iowa [KCCI] — Some Iowans will not see their local temperature and dew point weather reports because several weather tracking sensors across Iowa are disabled. In western Iowa, that includes the Denison and Carroll Airports. The Federal Aviation Administration released new guidelines on July 2 that require malfunctioning Automated Weather Observing Systems, or AWOS, located at airports to be disabled.
