Is your family ready to embrace a four-day school week? Although it's a fairly new concept, two school districts in Northern Michigan have already adopted it. According to the Associated Press, there are roughly 13,000 school districts in the United States. Two decades ago, there were only about 100 school districts in the US observing a four-day week. That number grew to 662 in 2019 and currently stands at close to 900 districts nationwide.
Michigan golf club repays COVID-19 pandemic loan after after lawsuit challenges eligibility
Authorities said Monday that a golf club in southwestern Michigan has agreed to pay $440,000 to settle allegations that it wrongly obtained a loan through a federal program during the COVID-19 pandemic.Gull Lake Country Club, near Richland in Kalamazoo County, was not eligible for a loan, U.S. Attorney Mark Totten said.A whistleblower filed a lawsuit against the club, and the federal government joined the case. The lawsuit names other Michigan golf clubs. Most documents in the case are sealed in federal court in Grand Rapids. Under the Paycheck Protection Program, certain businesses could receive forgivable loans to help them during the pandemic.A phone message seeking comment from the Gull Lake club wasn't immediately returned."Today's resolution demonstrates our continued commitment to protect taxpayer dollars and investigate allegations of fraud on critical government programs," Totten said.The lawsuit was filed by Wade Riner, who will get a share of the settlement. He has filed similar lawsuits in other states.

(CBS DETROIT) - Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff is scheduled to make a campaign stop in Michigan on Thursday, Aug. 29.Details on Emhoff's visit were not immediately released, but his office says he is expected to deliver remarks at an event in Grand Rapids. He last visited Michigan in May, along with First Lady Jill Biden.The visit comes after Vice President Kamala Harris officially accepted the Democratic nomination for president. Harris made a campaign stop earlier this month after announcing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump wrapped up a visit to Detroit on Monday at the National Guard Association of United States' 146th General Conference and Exhibition a week after holding a press conference in Livingston County. He will speak again in Potterville on Thursday, while his running, U.S. Sen. JD Vance, travels to Big Rapids on Tuesday.
