Southern California Surf Legend Kirk Weissinger Tragically Passes Away
By Dashel Pierson,

A legend in the shorebreak-loving surf community of Seal Beach, CA has tragically passed away. Now, surfers in the Orange County area are mourning Kirk Weissinger.
Continuing to muse about Kirk’s surfing accolades, his love for the sport, his impact on the local groms, and his personality on land and in the water, SBBC wrote:
"Sad, mad and every emotion in between, this one hits us all in the heart. Kirk’s talent in the water was undeniable. A Seal Comp City Champ and perennial performer for the Seal Boardriders Club, Kirk had the full repertoire. In the air, on the face, in the barrel or charging uncomfortably large surf, he always showed up and blew up. Amazing at every wave Seal has to offer, he ripped the shit out them all.
“Speak softly, throw a lot of water. Kirk was at the top of the pecking order. For anyone who showed up to surf Southside they’d see Kirk repeatedly thread the thickest, deepest pits and come to realize very quickly he was a Seal Local. He always showed respect in and out of the water and was humble about his amazing talent. A true waterman in every sense, the ocean was his playground.”
From Chad Wells, Seal Beach Boardriders President, he offered this memorial:
"Kirk was a true blue Seal local. From gromhood to manhood he had a solid rail game and through his teens he really honed in his surfing. His tube-riding and approach out front was always on point, continually snagging the thickest wedges 10th St. had to offer and getting spat out on the sand. He ripped every wave in town which not everyone does and he wasn’t scared. He put on some performances at big deep water secret spots that are of town legend.
"He was a great competitor, multi Seal City Champ and one of our top performers for our Boardriders Club since its inception in 2016. Kirk was a kind-hearted, humble guy who let his surfing do the talking. He moved through life with respect. An avid fisherman and wingman to father Ric and his brothers on their family boat and Seal Beach Lifeguard for many years, the ocean was where Kirk excelled at everything. The Seal Beach surf community suffers a huge loss with his passing and he will be truly missed and we will make sure we continue to perpetuate his memory."
In honor of their fallen brethren, the Seal Beach Boardriders are hosting a celebration for Kirk this weekend, Saturday, August 24th. But it’s not your typical paddleout, as they made clear; this is a party. SBBC explained :
“THIS SATURDAY 8/24
“We’re giving the SB Champs a miss this week. Instead we are running a “Show Up And Blow Up” in memory of Kirk Weissinger from 9am - 12pm at River. Tent, music, cooler, etc….
“This is not a formal paddle out, but rather a guerrilla style event for all MF’ing Kirk fans!
“Bring your board, bring a beach chair and come celebrate the life of a fantastic young man, gone too soon. See you at River this Saturday.
“Pass it along.”
Rest in power, Kirk.
