Nate Florence is a sucker for punishment, and this edit proves it.

Florence could be surfing anywhere in the world. In fact, the same day he was attempting to ride this death slab in Brazil , aptly named " The Shock ", Indonesia was firing: perfect, blue tubes rifling off across the entire archipelago.

But no. Florence was here in Brazil instead. Throwing himself directly in harms way for the second straight day at a marginally rideable slab that breaks over huge rocks and rarely, if ever, lets you out of the tube. Florence found that one out the hard way.

"I'm super sore," says Florence in the beginning of this clip. "That huge one yesterday was an extremely violent slam. One of those ones where, when you realize you're falling, you're pretty worried about what's about to happen."

Well, apparently not that worried. Not only did Florence tow for a couple of hours after that huge slam in the previous edit, he decided the following day that he'd try to paddle into a few instead.

Spoiler alert: It almost ends in disaster.

While we don't want to ruin the 16-minute edit (it's worth the extended run time), let's just says Florence ends up in one of the most precarious situations of his surfing life, and watching it all unfold will make your palms sweaty, even through a computer screen.

Can you imagine what his wife, Mahina, was feeling while filming?

"I have to say, the boys were right, I don't think The Shock is a paddle wave," laughs Florence, once he's safely back on land. "I needed to listen to the local, Brazilian cowboys."
