Mikey February Flips Script, Chases Lefthand Tubes in Morocco

One of the cool things about Mikey February’s YouTube channel is his music selection. Mikey’s long been interested in jazz, but his tastes have been elevated in his bigger films like Sonic Souvenirs. He likes to highlight local African artists from the region he surfs in. His two Sonic Souvenirs films have used music from South Africa and the Ivory Coast, with tunes from Basa Basa, Steven Amoiko, and Madala Kunene (who did two original compositions). You won’t find music like this in most surf edits today.

Yes, there are lefts in Morocco's right-strewn coastline.

This edit, Mikey’s second release from a successful Moroccan field trip, features one upbeat song from Hailu Mergia & Dahlak Band. Hailu is a famous Ethiopian keyboardist, accordionist and composer. He and his group went from working the nightclub circuit to becoming one of Ethiopia’s leading musicians in the 1970s. In the ‘80s he moved to the United States where he recorded a solo album while working as a taxi driver. Dude’s got credentials.

It all blends seamlessly in Morocco’s (Side B) clip now playing above. Enjoy three minutes and 43 seconds of tastefully energetic music and Mikey toying with a lefthand wedge.
