French Beachbreaks and a Creative Cast: The Quiksilver Festival Returns to Hossegor

Who doesn’t love a party with the French? Twenty-four professional surfers certainly don’t mind. Two dozen handpicked surfers have been invited for a week of fine dining and sandy barrels in the coastal Landes region of southwest France.

The 2024 Quiksilver Festival is set to return for its second year from September 21-29 at Plage des Gardians in the commune of Seignosse. The contest is the brainchild of former CT veteran Jeremy Flores, who will hand-pick 24 surfers divided into 12 teams of two. The event has a 10-day window but only needs four days to run. Reportedly, the conditions will determine the forecast. Contest Director Miky Picon will choose different criteria like biggest air, turn or tube depending on how the sandbars look each day. The venue can even change day to day, hence why organizers call it a “mobile event” and are not investing in a broadcast. After four days, the team with the most points will be crowned champion. There's no live broadcast of the event, but you can catch daily updates from Stace Galbraith’s “ Baguette TV .”

With luck, a late fall swell in France could produce windows like this for the 2024 Quiksilver Festival.

So far the list of confirmed invitees includes Kelly Slater, Coco Ho, Clay Marzo, Kai Lenny, Shane Dorian, Sierra Kerr and Olympic gold medalist Kauli Vaast. More to be announced in the lead-up. Funnily enough, Jeremy and Tahitian Michel Borez won the inaugural event in 2023 on a properly pumping sandbar.

"We are really happy to welcome the world's best surfers once again this year for the Quiksilver Festival,” Jeremy said in a release. “The first edition was incredible, both in terms of the conditions and the enthusiasm of the crowd. So we are really excited to be with surf, skate, music, and art fans for this 2024 edition, which already promises to be amazing!"

The party will keep rolling in Capbreton, Hossegor, and Seignosse with a skate comp, music and parties every night for a week straight. Live tunes from Skeggs, Club Azure, Doll, Victor Flash, Antigone and Dimity Stoyle are all onboard. Capbreton will also host a large parasurf session on September 25.
