Abrazo Surprise Hospital, 16815 W. Bell Road, will offer a special ‘Ask-a-Cardiologist’ educational opportunity from 12 to 1:45 p.m.  Thursday, May 2.

Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Gagan Kaur will talk about advancements in treating heart disease, and take questions from community members. Lunch will be provided and seating is limited for this free event in the hospital’s lobby.

Heart disease is an umbrella term which includes many different conditions:

    • Coronary artery disease is when vessels are clogged with plaque, interfering with the flow of blood in the heart.
    • Arrhythmia is when electrical activities of heart are interfered with. Examples are atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter which is characterized by irregular heartbeat.
    • Heart valve disease includes mitral valve or aortic valve stenosis, or what is called a leaky valve.
    • Congestive heart failure is when the muscles of the heart become weak or “pump failure.”

Abrazo Surprise Hospital is also offering AngioScreen health risk assessments for $59 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May  2. AngioScreen includes carotid ultrasound, a simple EKG for heart rhythm and a clinician reviews results for risk factors for heart attacks, stroke or peripheral artery disease.
