Surprise! MCG restrictions started today, will now last twice as long

Work on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway began today and motorists should expect road closures and restrictions.

The project was originally slated for four days, June 3 to 7. Last week, it was rescheduled to June 24 to 28, also four days.

When work suddenly started today, city officials announced the project would now double to eight days.

Phoenix-based Combs Construction is applying double chip seal and restriping on the highway between Antone Street and North Russell Road in both directions. The work runs today through June 18.

There will be “periods of inconvenience” between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily, officials said.

Tammy Valadez Paz, engineering project manager for the city, was not immediately available to respond to questions about why the pavement work started today or why the timeline was extended.
