Light up your night and join the city of Surprise for an Independence Day Celebration on Thursday, July 4, featuring food trucks, kids activities and a fireworks display that begins at 8:45 p.m.

There are multiple ways to celebrate before the big show, including music, a baseball game and a pool party.

While some viewing locations are free, canned food donations are appreciated! Items can be dropped at the Surprise Aquatic Center, Surprise Stadium and Mark Coronado Park.

    The celebrations are as follows:

    • Festivities at Mark Coronado Park, 15960 N. Bullard Ave., will consist of a DJ, games and inflatables for the kids.

Food will be available for purchase from a variety of food trucks on Bullard Avenue beginning at 6 p.m.

Mark Coronado Park is a popular spot for residents to watch the fireworks, so be sure to arrive early and bring a blanket or chairs. Personal grills and alcohol are strictly prohibited.

    • Enjoy a free baseball game at Surprise Stadium, 15960 N. Bullard Ave., before the fireworks show.

Minor league teams for the Oakland A’s and Texas Rangers will face off at 5 p.m. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.

The stadium will remain open after the completion of the game for anyone who would like to watch the fireworks from the stadium seats.

    • The Red, White and Pool Party at Surprise Aquatic Center, 15831 N. Bullard Ave., isn’t free but is sure to be a splash.

Surprise residents can join us from 6 to 9 p.m. for games and swimming and then stay to enjoy a poolside view of the fireworks.

Tickets are $6 per person and go on sale June 17. Registration is limited to the first 400 residents. To register, head to surpriseaz.gov/SurpriseRec and click on “Special Events.”

For the safety and convenience of event attendees, Bullard Avenue will be closed between Tierra Buena and Paradise Lane from 2 to 10 p.m. Civic Center Drive will be closed from 6 to 8:45 p.m.

Parking lots at city buildings around the stadium will be open for those wishing to watch the fireworks from their cars.

Event parking will be available at the following locations:

    • Main Surprise Stadium parking lot, north of the stadium
    • Surprise Community Park
    • Overflow parking south of Tierra Buena Lane, between Bullard Avenue and Civic Center Drive
    • Overflow parking north of Paradise Lane, between Bullard Avenue and Civic Center Plaza
    • Accessible parking will be available in the southeast portion of the stadium parking lot and the southwest end of the Surprise Aquatic Center

The city is reminding residents to leave the fireworks to the pros. Personal fireworks and sparklers are not permitted.

Community grills are available for use at each ramada in Community Park. Please refrain from bringing a personal grill.

Popup tents are welcome, but they must be properly secured with stakes or weights.
