Victims identified in Surprise murder-suicide

Surprise police have identified the victims in this week's murder-suicide in The Grand.

Investigators have identify the husband and wife found in the residence as 79-year-old Shirley Germenis and 82-year-old Dionysios Germenis.

Officers from the Surprise Police Department responded to a home in the area of Sunrise Boulevard and Goldwater Ridge Drive on June 20 after a 911 caller reported finding their elderly neighbors deceased.

Investigators learned Shirley was restricted to a wheelchair and required full-time medical care. She was found with a gunshot wound to her upper body, while Dionysios had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The loss of life due to suicide and the violence surrounding it is on the rise in Arizona. Police encouraged anyone struggling with thoughts of harming themselves or others is urged to call 988.
