    Power outages strikes some in the area

    Thunder was rumbling in the area into the late hours of Monday night and some residents woke up Tuesday to find they had no power, hours after the storms concluded.

    As of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning the largest number of power outages in the Yadkin Valley were found in Wilkes County.

    Duke Energy Carolinas reported five customers were reported to be without in Stokes County. Wilkes County had the highest number of outages, due to a fallen tree onto power lines, with 128 customers without power. There are 33 customers in Yadkin County, to the South of Smithtown, reported to be without power.

    There were only four reported outages in Surry County, all located in Mount Airy in the area around the split of North Main Street into Wards Gap Road and Greenhill Road, just North of Jones School Road. Shortly after noon, at least some of those customers were without power, but electricity had been restored by 4:30 p.m.

    Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation was also reporting a handful out outages in Wilkes County in the area near Bell Mountain to the West of Traphill.

    The National Weather Service Office in Blacksburg, Virginia, reported just more than one inch of rain fell at the Mount Airy/Surry County Airport on Monday.
