CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A police chase in Chesapeake ended with a woman getting taken into custody on Tuesday, police said. Chesapeake police said an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop around 12:16 p.m. on Military Highway near Micheal Drive because the license plates did not belong on the vehicle.
Fuel tanker catches fire in Virginia Beach
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — No one was hurt after a fuel tanker caught fire and leaked fuel in Virginia Beach on Monday. The Virginia Beach Fire Department said it happened in the 3500 block of Cellar Door Way, near Dam Neck Road. A fuel tanker truck caught fire, and its fuel tank ruptured in the process. Hazmat crews were able to stop the leak, and the remaining diesel and gasoline were safely transferred to other trucks that were standing by.

Oak Island denies permit extension for house
Oak Island Town Council denied a request to extend a special use permit (SUP) this month for a property owner who said he wanted to build his retirement home at The Point. Council held a quasi-judicial hearing during its June 18 meeting to consider the extension for Kuntal Ghandi and his property at 6963 Kings Lynn Drive. Ghandi appeared before council for a quasi-judicial hearing earlier this year related to his Ocean Crest Motel property on East Beach Drive. He didn’t get the same results this time around, however, as council felt Ghandi failed to meet the requirements needed to grant an extension and denied the request in a 4-1 vote with Mark Martin casting the lone dissenting opinion.
