Adam Ant: A Timeless Legend Lights Up LA

    2024-04-30

Adam Ant continues to be that rare artist that commands the stage and draws in his audience, like a moth to a flame. Currently on a nationwide tour with his equally mesmerizing band, fans have been thrilled to see his robust passion for performing.

Steve Gidlow remembers with fondness, seeing Adam perform with his band, back in September 1981.

“Ant Music had just taken Australia by storm and the country was still in the throes of Ant-mania," he told Newsbreak. "‘Stand and Deliver’ had just been released in anticipation of their next release, ‘Prince Charming,’ so the tour was also highly anticipated, and Adam and his Ants delivered. From their colorful costumes, musicianship, and stage presence, the show was high-energy from start to end."

Steve has also loved Adam's solo material for decades. “‘Vive le Rock’ is still as fresh as the day it was released. Hasn’t aged at all– a lot of his music is just timeless.”

Which is why, 43 years later, the legend that is Adam Ant delightfully entertained a packed Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, where he performed from his vast repertoire, delicious songs like “Dog Eat Dog,” “AntMusic,” “Friend or Foe,” and “Desperate But Not Serious.”

At the venue, a plethora of loyal fans like Cindy Zack and Kris Magner-Redemske wore Ant-related outfits and pirate makeup to honor him.

“It’s been a childhood dream of mine to see Adam, I’ve loved him since middle school when I would watch his videos on Video One (hosted by Richard Blade),” Cindy enthused.

“He and the band put on a fantastic show, playing all the favorites, from the post punk to the catchy pop stuff. The crowd was up on their feet, dancing and singing. How many 69 year olds can tour and put on the performance he did?! So impressed!”

This was the first time Kris Magner-Redemske saw Adam perform, and she loved the vibe created at the venue.

“Everyone was excited and energized,” Kris observed. “We loved seeing Adam for the first time and are so happy we got the chance to go while he is still touring. He had these great spin moves and a kind of gallop he did across the stage—it was fantastic and uniquely his. His appearance is still youthful, fit, and smokin’ hot!”

For all the nostalgic feelings Adam’s beloved music evokes, his youthful band members infused the evening with a vibrant intensity. “Jola, the female drummer, kicked ass!!!” Kris added. “She was incredible, and the whole band was on fire! They were all very strong musicians, for sure!”

The band's masterful lead guitarist, Will Crewdson, is thrilled to be bringing his artistry to Adam's music. “Adam and the Ants was the first band I ever saw, so it’s a privilege to be playing with him now," Will said.

If you’re in Los Angeles next month, Will has a gig for his one man band, ScantRegard, at The Redwood Bar on May 12th! And Adam Ant will be performing on May 11th as part of the Cruel World Festival!
