ADU regs a step in right direction
With the passage of less-restrictive regulations for accessory dwelling units, Sussex County Council has taken a step in offering more options for affordable housing. ADUs have been a housing option since the late 1990s. Before the changes, the units were designated as garage-studio apartments with strict regulations, including no kitchens, which are now allowed.

Welches Pond, subdivision with 247 single-family home lots on 256 acres along Cedar Grove Road, was granted an appeal from Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission June 25 for a renewed timeline to have the community’s pool finished and open to residents. Commissioners changed the community’s pool completion from before or at the issuance of the 130th building permit to the 148th permit or Dec. 31, whichever occurs first. That number, representing 60% of the permits, has become a standard for the county.
