Alma Maters: University of Delaware, Wisconsin School of Business. A lifelong Delawarean, Rob Book was named the president and CEO of the Delaware Electric Cooperative in November 2022. In the top job, he is tasked with leading the utility co-op that serves 112,000 homes, farms and businesses in Kent and Sussex counties, as well as 175 employees. Before being named CEO, Book worked his way up from coordinator of informational services back in 2001 to senior vice president of member services. He was instrumental in launching the cooperative’s Beat the Peak program, which has saved members more than $38 million since it started in 2008. In 2022m, that program returned more than $5 million in credits to 65,000 members.
Milford School District lowers tax rate for 8th year

In just two pages of the July 9 Viewpoints section, I learned that Lewes parking fines are too high; fines are unfair even when one makes a mistake leading to an earned ticket; the Sussex County flag should no longer contain the picture of a wheat sheaf but instead should represent the apparently excessive tree demolition and housing construction in the county, or those obviously foolish traffic circles; that many of us here are dying of obesity; whole milk will kill you directly if the cancer it causes doesn't get you first; irrigation rules are unfair and unnecessary; Rehoboth is filthy; and Sen. Russ Huxtable is a failure.
IRSD Board holds the line on tax rate
The Indian River School District Board of Education met on Monday, June 24, with a quorum of members on the stage at Indian River High School. Jay Owens, district superintendent, was traveling and not in attendance as board members Donald Hattier and Heather Statler said goodbye at their final meeting before retirement from the board after 22 years and nearly 10 years, respectively. Karen Blannard, assistant superintendent of the 10,000-student school district, stood in for Owens.
New roundabout needs regular maintenance
Now that our Five Points roundabout is mainly complete and up and running since mid-May, it's time to cut the grass and address the routine maintenance of the roundabout. As of July 10, the grass/weeds are overgrown, and as a result, this is causing obstructions to drivers using the roundabout. Not sure who is responsible for this – DelDOT, Sussex County or Lewes – but someone needs to step up and start mowing the grass/weeds so all drivers have a clear vision of this roundabout.
